ABOUT
GOOD SHEPHERD
HUMANE SOCIETY
Since 1974, Good Shepherd Humane Society has proudly served the needs of local strays in Eureka Springs, AR. Whether educating the community on spaying and neutering their pets or caring for homeless animals in our shelter, we do all we can to help.
As the only no-kill shelter in Carroll County, we are solely supported by the generous donations and funding provided by our community.
Good Shepherd has come a long way since its founding 50 years ago. It has experienced ups and downs and sometimes struggled to find its way, but we could not prouder of the good it has done or the effective, professional organization it has become. We owe this success to every person who has supported us over the years, and with the continued support of our community, we will reach even greater heights.
The work we do here at Good Shepherd is NOT taxpayer-funded.

GOOD SHEPHERD PROVIDES

An industry-standard exceeding sheltering program for Carroll County.
All our dogs are housed in climate-controlled, double-sided runs. They all receive outside time daily and participate in our enrichment program. Our cats are housed in communal rooms, with double-height individual housing available for cats that are not social.

A trained and certified animal care staff that provide care, enrichment, and sanitation daily.
We also have an on-call, contract veterinarian and medical protocols that allow us to treat most ailments on-site using our time and resources more efficiently.
A progressive adoption program that sees most of the animals in our care placed into good, local homes.
We have directly placed hundreds of pets into primarily local homes since January. Not only does this provide good pets to good people it also undermines puppy mill and ‘street corner’ pet sales by providing vaccinated, fixed and vetted animals at a low-cost.

Participation in regional and national partnerships.
Through staff involvement in various other groups and agencies we leverage those relationships into resources, access and benefits for Carroll County pets and their owners. This includes securing large pet food donations to share with other area groups, assistance in dealing with large-volume or hoarding cases, and access to special grants and other programs.

High quality, low-cost spay and neuter program.
Thanks to the generous support of Bissell and Fido Fixers, we are able to offer low-cost spay and neuter services through clinics at our Adoption Center and mobile units, expanding our reach to rural communities in North Arkansas.

Transparent, Community Focused Operations
We publish our outcomes, welcome volunteers behind the scenes, and operate as a true community resource, not just a facility.
