Over 50 Years in Carroll County

On the afternoon of April 8, 1974, twenty-six people met in the Council Chambers of the Eureka Springs Court House and agreed to build an animal shelter. They collected $115 in dues, set membership at $5 a year, elected Otto Mayer president, and named themselves the Carroll County Humane Society.

They had no building, no land, and no idea what they were starting.
